Director's Statement
When I was a child, many of the films I loved had titles beginning with “Sky of…”, which always made me feel a faint melancholy, sad but not hurt. The sky in April has both sorrow and sweetness, which mirrors Linlin’s feelings about life during her adolescence. Even in today’s more open and inclusive social climate, Linlin still wanders between love and family, which troubles her and forces her to make a choice. In recent years, the “le” community (a Chinese internet term referring to lesbians) has increasingly been treated as a kind of commercial symbol, but this remains an unequal and unjust way of objectifying a marginalized group. I have no intention of engaging in these debates; I simply write about Linlin as a real person — nothing more.
