SYNOPSIS
Can two people form a family solely for the sake of love? Guy and Henry, a couple deeply in love, had willingly travelled all the way from Hong Kong to Vancouver, Canada in order to get married, when such marriage is not even recognized legally in their hometown. Why did they made such a big effort to do this? What is the true meaning of marriage?
Under the mentality of Chinese families in a post-colonial society like Hong Kong and through their marriage, how did the couple realize their family members’ hope regarding their union? As the couple got married in a relatively open society like Canada, how are the newlyweds influenced by the western society’s mentality and its marriage regulations?
Director Biography
Chi-man Yung, a Master graduate of Beijing Film Academy Directing Department, was funded twice by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to produce “Fusion”(2006) and “Reflections”(2008). He participated in documentary productions by Peoples Productions, he directed “Buns Let Us Live in Peace” (2011) which won the Gold Plaque (Community Relations / Development) in the 47th Chicago Intercom Competition. Director's Statement
As a heterosexual, I never thought of making any gay friends through my Taiwanese classmate at the Beijing Film Academy, even less shooting a documentary on their marriage. From a factual angle, I chose to focus subjectively on their love and family relations rather than their sexual orientation.
