SYNOPSIS
Based on a true story, this film follows two queer people from mainland China exploring the boundary of gender in real emotional dynamics. In this story, a troop leader chose to face his identity for the first time in his life on that weekend, while the other partner of this queer date, a well-known Drag Queen, was already very experienced romantically. Beginning on a single bed in that motel were their dreams for the future; remarking that summer was their unique and short-lived dreamy time with each other.
Director Biography
Huang received the Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Film and Television Directing in Chongqing University, and is currently pursuing Master’s degree in the Graduate Program of Narrative Film at Berlin University of the Arts, instructed by the renowned filmmaker, Thomas Arslan (winner, short-list filmmaker and jury of numerous times at the Berlinale). Huang is the founder of the Film program in the 1st Co-Crafting Art Festival (Chongqing) and an active collaborator of cultural exchange events with the embassies in China. Working as the Instructor of the Theatric Performance course at Tianjin Nankai Middle School, Huang also won the 2024 Aasha International Film Festival – Best Short Film, and the 2024 America Prestige Film Festival – Best Student Film.
Director's Statement
I am a filmmaker from the deep mountains of Guizhou Province, China. My vision focuses on the humanistic concerns and social issues. You will see the urgency of self-expression and the high regards of intimacy among the queer Gen-Z in my films. I am also a Drag artist myself. Regarding Drag as a performance art form on stage, it is a field for many arts to cross. My style for Drag, likewise for my films, is not merely about displaying beauty, but also about changing the public’s biases about gender and working towards gender unconsciousness. These two endeavors of artistic expressions are where my passion root to articulate my views on the world, as well as to provide unique perspectives and methods of communication for social progress.
