It has been more than five years since homosexuality was decriminalized in my country. But little has changed. People are still scared to come out. Acceptance still seems like a distant dream. Last year, the Supreme Court of India rejected a petition to legalize same-sex marriage. It troubles me deeply to see many of my queer friends getting separated from their families after they were disowned by the very people they grew up around. We failed them as a society. “If” was born from that deep despair. Based on people and incidents around me, I wanted to search for love in this darkness, through this film.
