Director's Statement
The film is inspired by Liu Keyi’s novel “White Jade Cup”. Using contrasting color styles—color for reality and black-and-white for imagination—the story gradually unveils the theft of the white jade cup. In the film, the white jade cup represents the protagonist’s desires, but the primary personality (she/her) remains constrained by moral law, leading to the emergence of a second personality (he/him), who commits the theft. Once his desire is fulfilled, he finds that it is difficult for him to establish an intimate relationship regardless of the opposite or the same sex. Through the protagonist’s sessions with a psychological counselor, the film explores the protagonist’s desire for intimacy and completes the pessimistic expression of intimacy.
