SYNOPSIS
The story follows Kang, who adopts the unconventional disguise of cross-dressing to accompany his boyfriend Du on a visit to Du’s grandmother’s home.
Director Biography
Chen Kaiwen was born and raised in Chongqing, China. He completed his undergraduate studies in Media at the University of California, San Diego, where he consistently created photography series and films informed by a keen awareness of social issues. He is currently preparing to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
Director's Statement
“In the Clouds” is a short film exploring and portraying the gay community in a small town setting in China. The film tells the story of Kang, who follows his boyfriend Du to a small town to visit Du’s grandmother in a special way of cross-dressing. During this time, he has doubts about his identity and his relationship with his boyfriend. And even more so, Kang discovers the secret that his boyfriend’s granduncle is also gay. Kang starts to embrace his true self and finds emotional resonance with another person…
