Synopsis
This is a Kitsch manifesto celebrating clichés, pop culture, eroticism & fetishes. Kitsch has become a typical product for modernity and consumerism but also a way to escape from everyday reality.
NEO-KITSCH explores the theme of artificiality, sexuality and the race for the perfect body promoted by social media, press and fashion. NEO-KITSCH is investigating the body, the gender stereotypes and the theme of masculinity-femininity. Today the face of masculinity is changing and new forms of masculinity are taking shape.
NEO-KITSCH blends Western and Eastern European aesthetics in order to shake up cultural standards.

Director’s Statement
NEO-KITSCH gathers contemporary Romanian designers, dancers and artists from the film industry, most of them freshly graduates.
Besides the interest for fashion, we were interested in investigating the body, the gender stereotypes and the theme of masculinity-femininity.
We had chosen the kitsch aesthetic because these days kitsch can be perceived as an antidote to contemporary alienation. Kitsch has become a typical product for modernity and consumerism but also a way to escape from everyday reality.
This short film resembles advertisements in which frames are changing extremely fast and also use bright colors meant to arouse the interest of the viewer and create a sense of enthusiasm. The advertising industry was an inspiration for the creation of this film.
